The 1 in 4 Project: Carolynn

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month. As many of you know, this is near and dear to my heart, as we have experienced multiple losses.

I have been (and will continue to be throughout October) honored to spend time with fellow loss mamas, capturing their stories and love for their babies. Some of these stories will be shared with video, some text, some simply photographs. I welcome you to join in remembering our babies and bringing awareness and normalcy to talking about these short but precious lives.

“After three miscarriages I really thought I would never have any living kids. I am so thankful for my rainbow baby! I always wanted a big family, but being prone to miscarriages makes trying for a baby rough, as it seems to take around 8 months of unprotected sex for me to get pregnant. One thought that always sobers me is that my son would not exist the way he does now if I had not miscarried 7 months before conceiving him. The universe is full of puzzles, isn’t it? I try not to think too much about in that aspect. My husband and I suffered another miscarriage before becoming pregnant with my sixth child who will hopefully be my second live birth. Through it all I grieve, but I have found that there is still joy in grief even at my darkest moments.”

The 1 in 4 Project: April

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month. As many of you know, this is near and dear to my heart, as we have experienced multiple losses.

I welcome you to join in remembering our babies and bringing awareness and normalcy to talking about these short but precious lives.

After 6 years of infertility, April became pregnant with twins via in vitro fertilization in 2012. At 8 weeks, they discovered she had lost one of the twins, whom they named Tiny. The second twin continued to grow and thrive until April went into labor at 20 weeks. Despite her doctors best efforts, Julia Hope was born still at 21 weeks.

April was blessed with a pregnancy a year later and, after spending months on bed rest and lots of medication due to an incompetent cervix, welcomed a daughter named Raelyn.

Desiring a sibling for her daughter, she decided to try a frozen embryo transfer when Raelyn was 8 months old, using embryos from her previous IVF cycle. The IVF was successful and April was again pregnant; however, she miscarried Flash shortly after.

“Please don’t be afraid to ask about all of my babies. Speak their name and know that they are a part of my Momma journey.” – April

Bringing Hannah Earthside – A Home Water Birth in Lynchburg, VA

Randi is a dear friend of mine. We have walked together through pregnancies as well as multiple losses on both sides. Sweet Hannah is Randi’s 4th living child, but is also a very special rainbow baby. The days (actually weeks) leading up to Hannah’s birth were filled with many neighborhood walks (several late at night) and even more prodromal labor. We actually weren’t 100% positive it was “real” labor until just a couple hours before Hannah made her entrance – Randi was making muffins less than two hours before she was born. But once things did start to pick up, it was fast and intense (in Randi’s words).  Hannah was born in the water and soon after greeted by her siblings in the intimacy of their home.

Can we all just take a second to appreciate this total “mom” moment – Randi is a rockstar of a mom and this is case in point!

I’m starting to dabble in offering video clips along with stills for birth stories and captured a few moments as the kids met their new little sister (no audio.

In celebration of Hannah’s birth, I’m offering the birth affirmations that I made for Randi as a free digital download. You can find them here.

Welcome to the world Hannah Rae!

Welcome to the Blog! (Free Pocket Motherhood Affirmations Download!)

Welcome to the blog! I can’t wait to use this to share so many things with you. I’m going to kick it off with a freebie! Over the weekend I had the opportunity to attend Lynchburg’s first inaugural Milkapalooza as a vendor with the Central Virginia Birth Collaborative. If you came by to see us you probably left with one of my motherhood/breastfeeding affirmation cards. I fell in love with affirmations while preparing for the birth of my daughter in 2016. I recently put together a large set of birth affirmations (download coming soon) for a friend who will be birthing her daughter any day now. While I was making hers, I came up with the idea to create some that focused more on motherhood and breastfeeding so that I could hand them out at Milkapalooza. They were so well received I wanted to make them accessible to anyone anywhere, not just those who were able to attend the event. And so, I present you with the FREE MOTHERHOOD AFFIRMATIONS DOWNLOAD!
